Mrs Moleworth's name dominated children's books for some thirty years at the end of the last century and the beginning of this. She always wrote with plenty of adult good sense while, at the same time sharing a child's experience.
In My New Home, the heroine Helena looks back, from the age of 14, to the secure childhood she spent with her Grandmother. Now her Grandmother must go, with Helena, to London where she will manage a nephew's house. Helena suffers agonies of jealousy when she sees that her Grandmother's time and attention are continuously taken up by others in her new home.
But in true Molesworth fashion all turns out well in the end.
